About Us

The Lowveld Rambling Club was established in 1972 by a small group of enthusiastic hikers and nowadays, some 40 plus years later is still a popular and active hiking club in the Lowveld region of South Africa. We walk most Saturday mornings throughout the year with a month long break over the Christmas holiday period and a short break at Easter.

Our hikes range from 8 to 18 kilometres and cover a wide range of terrain - mountains, forests, river banks and open spaces. The majority of our hikes are centred on the countryside around Sabie, Graskop, Barberton and Kaapschehoop. We grade our walks as:

easy - fairly flat or undulating terrain;

moderate - hilly terrain with some obstacles; and

difficult - steep terrain with obstacles.

We usually start hiking at 08:00 and finish in time for a braai or picnic lunch giving us plenty of opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery and catching up with the local news and gossip. To quote our long-time chairman "we're not a running club!" and the social side of our club is a very important contributor to its continued success.

We are a very friendly club and are always happy to welcome new members and occasional visitors.  Our weekly walk is always notified in the local newspaper - The Laevelder, why not come along and check us out?
