Lowveld Rambling Club
Our Hiking Code
Walk Lightly - avoid kicking up soil and stones to minimise the impact of erosion
Wear Light Soft Shoes - "tekkies" have less environmental impact than boots. Only wear boots if you have to.
Light Loads - make carrying easier and have less environmental impact.
Walk Quietly - avoid shouting and loud conversations. Noise pollution can spoil everyone's day.
Walk Slowly - "smell the flowers", enjoy nature - our hikes are not races.
Follow The Trail - avoids getting lost and minimises environmental impact.
Be Alert - watch out for dangerous animals (snakes, scorpions and when near water, crocodiles and hippos).
Respect Nature - take photos, but leave plants and other items of interest for others to enjoy.
Respect Wildlife - avoid disturbing wildlife, especially during the breeding season. Do not feed wildlife.
Do Not Litter - collect and remove any rubbish (cling wrap, egg shells, fruit peel etc.) you may create.
Prevent Fires - do not smoke while walking and make sure all cigarette butts are completely put out.
Enjoy Yourself - take time to meet people, to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.
